AIMS To improve health and healthcare of refugees and asylum seekers through projects, in which medical and healthcare students work with local communities and organisations. Through practical engagement in these projects we also aim to inspire and educate our volunteers about refugee and asylum seeker health issues, Created a “priority project” and encourage local branches to run this project with guidance and support from the national committee. Created a priority project and other projects that can be run in medical schools across the country and guidance on how to establish and sustain such projects. CAMPAIGNS Supporting campaigns such as “defend primary healthcare” which are done at a local and national level by the global health advocacy project (GhAP) against the governments denial of healthcare for failed asylum seekers. EDUCATION Aim: Educate medical and healthcare students about refugee and asylum seeker health needs, thus creating a cohort of future health professionals who will be well prepared to provide high quality care that meets these needs. We also aim to empower medical student to educate their peers about these issues by encouraging students to initiate the effort to include refugee health issues in the curriculum of their medical schools. Educational resources about refugee and asylum seeker health issues has been compiled into a DVD called “refugee health resource pack” and has been distributed to universities across the country who are interested in including this as part of the medical curriculum.
